It had two pressures at once. The content providers wanted targeted ads inside their channels, and viewers still expected playback that just works. Both had to be true at the same time. Allente brought in Bradmax to integrate Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) from Yospace for real-time ad delivery, and to deploy analytics from NPAW for monitoring, playback optimization and service performance. ## What Allente needed ### Compliance with broadcaster requirements Run user-targeted ad insertion, because the content providers now require it. ### Performance monitoring Get real-time analytics that catch streaming problems before viewers report them, at a lower cost than the tool it replaced. ### A better viewing experience Keep ads playing cleanly, keep streams stable, and cut buffering on every platform. ## Meeting Content Provider & Viewer Expectations The content providers wanted control over how their channels were monetized. Those channels had to carry user-targeted ads, swapped in as the stream runs, in live and on-demand alike, without the picture stuttering around them. That's a harder problem than it sounds. The ad has to arrive at the right moment, and the viewer must not notice the seam. The second problem was cost. Allente was already buying analytics from an external provider, but the bill was high and the insight arrived late. The team wanted to track playback stability, catch service issues before they escalated, and do it across a wide range of devices. "Bradmax proved to be a highly reliable partner throughout the entire implementation process. Their ability to quickly adapt to challenges and deliver efficient solutions ensured a smooth integration of personalized ads and analytics across our platform. Their expertise and problem-solving approach made the transition effortless for our team." ## What Bradmax built Allente picked Bradmax for the integrations. Ad insertion, analytics and playback all had to work together on the same platform, and none of them could be allowed to disturb what the viewer saw. DAI from Yospace went in first, for real-time personalized ad replacement in live and on-demand content. Browsers were straightforward. Smart TVs were not. Analytics from NPAW replaced the previous third-party tool. It gave Allente real-time tracking of streaming performance: buffering, playback stability and device coverage, all visible while the problem was still live. "This project was an exciting opportunity to bring advanced ad technology and analytics to a leading streaming platform. By adapting to Allente’s unique requirements and technical challenges, we delivered a tailored solution that not only met business objectives but also enhanced the viewing experience for end users." ## The Samsung Smart TV problem The hard part was synchronization. Ads had to line up across every device Allente served, and Smart TVs were the worst of them. On Samsung Smart TVs, the default media player didn't fully support ad playback for non-DRM protected ads inside DRM-protected channels. Bradmax worked around it with an alternative Samsung component that handled both. Consistent ad playback took a lot of testing. Bradmax tightened the links between the system components, shortened the test cycle, and added a fallback that skips a bad ad segment when one appears. Allente met the content providers’ requirements, and the streams kept running. “With Bradmax we seamlessly introduced personalized ad insertion and advanced analytics without disrupting our operations. The real-time insights and system optimizations have made our streaming service more stable, efficient, and user-friendly—delivering a better experience for both our team and our viewers." ## What changed **Full compliance with broadcaster requirements**, so the premium channels stayed available. **More stable streams**, with real-time monitoring and playback problems fixed before viewers noticed them. **Targeted ads that play cleanly** across platforms, without breaking the viewer’s attention. ## What Allente got out of it The ad system met the content providers’ new delivery requirements, and it gave Allente more control over monetization. More relevant ads meant better engagement, which is what makes the inventory worth more. Analytics gave the team real-time visibility of streaming quality, so issues could be dealt with before users hit them. Playback got more stable across platforms as a result. Viewers got ads that were more relevant to them, which cuts ad fatigue. They also got fewer interruptions: more stable playback, less buffering, on every device they use. ### About Allente Allente is a Nordic entertainment company. It sells satellite TV, streaming, IPTV and fiber broadband to more than a million customers in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. ### The Latest ### TISA How TISA and Bradmax Delivered a Unified Streaming Experience for the Modern Sports Fan ### Get a live demo See the player in action and explore how it fits your needs. Whether you want a personalized walkthrough or a self-paced demo, get a closer look—whenever it suits you. ## TISA Case Study | Bradmax Media Player URL: https://bradmax.com/site/en/case-studies/tisa Player migration & Flutter playback # Reimagining Sports Streaming with TISA & Bradmax ## Introduction TISA builds end-to-end digital platforms for sports organizations, and it is based in Switzerland. Its video player vendor shut down with little notice. Ekstraklasa and the Lithuanian Football Federation were already waiting on delivery, so the replacement had to drop straight into an existing Flutter architecture. TISA brought in Bradmax to build a custom player. It had to run on every target platform, and it had to leave the streaming service more stable and easier to see into than before. ## What TISA needed ### Urgent platform migration Build a working multi-platform player to replace the vendor that had just disappeared, with only weeks of lead time. ### Less to operate Consolidate the streaming tools and workflows, so a small team gets more done with less. ### Live events at scale Carry national league matches without falling over when the traffic spikes. ### Playback on every device Keep performance and features, such as Chromecast casting, the same on Android TV boxes, Samsung Smart TVs and everything else. ### Analytics per client Give each client, Ekstraklasa or the LFF, secure access to its own viewership data while TISA keeps the overview. ### Flutter, kept Integrate with Flutter on web, iOS, Android and Smart TV, without TISA having to abandon the architecture it had already committed to. ## Engineering a custom fit Flutter gave TISA fast cross-platform development. High-performance playback across that many devices was a different problem. Bradmax built a Flutter integration that reaches down to the native playback components where it has to. That gave TISA: - Adaptive bitrate streaming, DRM and casting, including Chromecast - Smooth playback on iOS, Android, web, Samsung Smart TVs and Android TV boxes - Platform-specific fixes, such as rendering glitches and playback stalls Naming, control patterns and configuration were unified, so TISA’s team maintains one consistent experience across platforms. That cuts onboarding time and makes the next rollout easier. Bradmax also worked as a technical escalation partner: switching streaming providers, and integrating a peer-to-peer CDN (System 73) for live sports. The result is a streaming backbone that holds up under load. This project showcased exactly the kind of partnership we aim for—complex, time-sensitive, and built on open communication. TISA had unique technical constraints, especially around Flutter, but instead of forcing a compromise, we engineered a player integration tailored to their architecture. The result was not just a working solution, but a foundation that continues to scale with their clients and platform. ## Rolled out in phases The integration went out in phases: browsers first, then the mobile apps, then Smart TVs and Android TV boxes. Each platform got tuned to its own constraints without breaking the shared experience. In parallel, Bradmax helped TISA deploy a peer-to-peer CDN for live streaming, and built multi-tenant analytics dashboards. Those gave TISA: - Each client, Ekstraklasa or the LFF, access to its own performance data - One operational view for TISA’s support teams The finished system onboards new clients quickly, needs little manual configuration, and keeps playback quality steady. “We were in a difficult position—our previous provider shut down with little notice, and we had already committed to Flutter across all our products. Bradmax stepped in quickly, understood the complexity of our setup, and delivered a custom player integration that worked across platforms without forcing us to rewrite our stack. Their technical agility and direct communication with our developers made a huge difference. It felt like a true partnership from day one.” ## What viewers get For viewers, the experience is the same whatever they are watching on, and whatever the traffic is doing. In practice that means: - Consistent playback quality across web, mobile, and Smart TVs - Fast start and no interruptions, even during a big live event - Reliable Chromecast and AirPlay casting - Stable delivery, served partly peer-to-peer ## What changed Migrated off a discontinued vendor with no interruption to service Custom player integration with Flutter across platforms Improved streaming quality and reliability at scale Faster onboarding of clients with unified configuration Per-client analytics dashboards for transparency and control Lower technical overhead for TISA’s development and support teams ## Results TISA recovered from losing its player vendor, and came out with a stronger foundation than it had before. That let the team: - Keep the Flutter stack and cut development friction - Unify playback behavior across all supported platforms - Give every client its own analytics dashboard - Scale live delivery with peer-based CDN infrastructure TISA now ships a new client with less overhead and less time to market. ### About TISA TISA is a Swiss technology company that builds end-to-end digital products for the sports and entertainment industries. It specializes in live streaming platforms, mobile and TV applications, and fan engagement tools. Rights holders and broadcasters across Europe and North America use it to deliver content to every device. ### The Latest ### Allente How Allente and Bradmax Optimized the Nordic Streaming Experience ### Get a live demo See the player in action and explore how it fits your needs. What changed is the deal around it: prices you have to ask for, a portfolio that reaches far past playback, and a support relationship you build again inside a much bigger company. Every claim about THEOplayer on this page comes from a public source, listed at the end. ## Quick answer ### Bradmax Bradmax suits teams that need CTV and TV web apps, dynamic and server-side ad insertion under real volume, Flutter and WebView playback, and a straight line to the engineers who build the player. Prices are published, from EUR 99 a month. ### THEOplayer THEOplayer suits teams that need Dolby-branded procurement, the widest catalogue of pre-built integrations, sub-second WebRTC latency, or native SDKs on consoles and set-top boxes. ## Where THEOplayer is strong ### Playback performance THEOplayer is widely regarded as best in class on startup time and adaptive bitrate behaviour. A decade of live sports deployments built that reputation. ### The broadest integration catalogue More than 200 pre-built integrations for DRM, ads and analytics across web, mobile, TV, set-top box and console, plus six optimised SDKs. ### Low-latency work A co-founder of the HESP alliance, with LL-HLS and LL-DASH support, and Millicast for sub-second WebRTC delivery since Dolby. ### Developer experience Open Video UI, open-source connectors and documentation that is genuinely thorough. ### Dolby backing Since July 2024 THEOplayer is part of Dolby. That buys capital, brand recognition and procurement credibility we cannot match on paper, and it is worth saying plainly. ## Where Bradmax fits better ### Published pricing, well under their entry point Bradmax tiers run from EUR 99 to EUR 399 a month and all of them are public. THEOplayer entry pricing has been reported at around EUR 395 a month, with everything above that quote-based. On a mid-market budget, that gap usually decides the shortlist. ### A player-only vendor Bradmax does one thing: playback across screens. There is no encoder, no ad network and no parent portfolio competing for engineering attention. ### Dynamic ad insertion as a core product Bradmax runs 13M+ dynamic ad insertion streams a month, with SCTE-35 workflows proven at TISA. Server-side and dynamic insertion is not a bolt-on here. ### Flutter and WebView playback that ships TISA runs six sports leagues on Flutter, with Bradmax playing through the WebView bridge. If a Flutter or hybrid app is on your roadmap, that path is proven rather than promised. ### White-label and reseller A white-label player, partner API keys and a reseller program, for software houses and CDNs that sell playback under their own brand. ### Direct access to the engineers Support is answered by the people who build the player, with response times published on our support page. ## Side by side | Criterion | Bradmax | THEOplayer (Dolby OptiView) | | --- | --- | --- | | Entry price | EUR 99/month, published | Reported around EUR 395/month; otherwise quote-based | | Pricing transparency | Full public price list | Quote-based | | TV and CTV coverage | Tizen, webOS and Android TV as web apps; Chromecast and AirPlay | Six optimised SDKs, including set-top box and console targets | | DAI / SSAI | 13M+ DAI streams a month; SCTE-35 workflows | Full ad stack, including the Dolby ad engine | | Multi-DRM | Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady, ClearKey | Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady | | Flutter and hybrid apps | Web player via the WebView bridge, in production at TISA | Dedicated React Native and Flutter SDKs | | White-label and OEM | White-label player plus partner API keys and a reseller program | OEM through enterprise agreements | | Sub-second latency | LL-HLS and LL-DASH | HESP plus Millicast WebRTC (sub-second) | | Support model | Engineers answer, with published response times | Enterprise support organisation | | Vendor continuity | Independent and player-only | Part of the Dolby portfolio since July 2024 | ## Migration path Both players take standard HLS and DASH manifests, so a migration is configuration work, not a re-encode. No. There is no public announcement of a discontinuation. Dolby acquired THEO Technologies in July 2024 and the product now sits in the Dolby OptiView line. The player carries on. What is worth planning around is the rebranding: it now lives inside a much larger portfolio with its own priorities. ### How much does THEOplayer cost? THEOplayer does not publish a price list. Public reporting has put the former Starter tier at around EUR 395 a month, with larger deals quoted. Check their site for current terms. We deliberately do not restate a competitor price as if it were ours to set. ### Can I keep my existing HLS and DASH streams? Yes. Bradmax plays standard HLS, MPEG-DASH and Smooth Streaming manifests, so the switch is configuration work rather than a re-encode or a repackage. ### How long does a migration take? Weeks, not quarters, for a standard web and TV deployment. TISA replaced a vendor that had already shut down, without interrupting its live sports calendar. ### Do you have native SDKs? No. Bradmax is one web-based codebase delivered to web, TV web apps and mobile WebViews, with Flutter and Angular bridges. One QA surface instead of six. If a native Java or Objective-C SDK is a hard requirement, THEOplayer is the better fit. ## Sources and method - Dolby acquires THEO Technologies Dolby press release, July 2024 - THEOplayer becomes Dolby OptiView Player Dolby OptiView product documentation - THEOplayer entry pricing around EUR 395/month Vendor pricing reporting, 2024-2026 - HESP alliance and Millicast low-latency delivery Dolby OptiView product pages Every claim about THEOplayer on this page comes from the public sources listed above. Vimeo is a video platform: hosting, delivery, player, and in the OTT edition a full subscriber app pipeline. Bradmax is a player. It plays the streams your infrastructure already serves. If you want one vendor to hold the whole stack, Vimeo is a reasonable answer. If you already own your storage and CDN and want a player you control, with DRM, TV coverage and dynamic ad insertion, the criteria below are the ones that matter. ## Quick answer ### Bradmax Bradmax suits teams that already have storage and CDN, need multi-DRM, TV and Flutter coverage plus ad insertion, and would rather pay per plan than per subscriber. ### Vimeo Vimeo suits creators and businesses that want hosting, delivery, player and (in the OTT edition) white-label subscriber apps and billing from one vendor. ## Where Vimeo is strong ### One vendor for the whole stack Hosting, transcoding, delivery, player and analytics from one supplier, with no integration work between the pieces. ### A genuinely polished player Vimeo's playback and editor experience has been strong for years, and the brand is trusted by creators and enterprises alike. ### OTT scale Vimeo OTT reports 9,300+ channels, 5,400+ apps and 13M+ subscribers. Few platforms have a subscriber app pipeline with that track record. ### No bandwidth billing Vimeo does not bill delivery per gigabyte, which removes a whole class of surprise cost when audiences spike. ### Enterprise features SSO, DRM and SOC 2 sit in the enterprise tier, which answers procurement requirements quickly. ## Where Bradmax fits better ### You keep your delivery economics Bradmax does not resell bandwidth or storage. You keep whatever CDN deal you have, so playback cost does not scale with our pricing model. ### Priced per plan, not per subscriber Bradmax publishes flat monthly tiers from EUR 99 to EUR 399. Vimeo OTT starts around USD 1 per subscriber a month plus a share of one-time purchases, so the bill grows with your audience rather than your usage. ### Player-only focus, no platform migration Adopting Bradmax does not mean moving your content, your accounts or your billing. It replaces the playback layer and nothing else. ### Dynamic ad insertion, not an add-on 13M+ dynamic ad insertion streams a month, with SCTE-35 workflows proven at TISA. A general-purpose video platform does not run ad engineering like that. ### TV and CTV coverage Tizen, webOS and Android TV playback plus Chromecast and AirPlay, from the same codebase as the web player. ### A published price list and no forced plan migrations Our tiers and prices are public. An independent, player-only vendor has no portfolio reason to re-price your account. ## Side by side | Criterion | Bradmax | Vimeo | | --- | --- | --- | | What you are buying | Player and playback SDK | Video platform: hosting, delivery, player, apps | | Pricing model | Flat monthly plan, published | Per-seat creator plans; OTT priced per subscriber plus a share of one-time purchases | | Entry price | EUR 99/month, published | Creator plans from around USD 10/month; OTT from around USD 1/subscriber/month | | Delivery and storage | Yours: any standard HLS or DASH source, multi-CDN | Bundled; included storage cut sharply in the 2026 restructure | | Multi-DRM | Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady, ClearKey | Available at higher and enterprise tiers | | TV and CTV | Tizen, webOS, Android TV, Chromecast, AirPlay | Varies by edition and plan | | DAI / SSAI | 13M+ DAI streams a month; SCTE-35 workflows | Ad-supported playback; DAI coverage depends on the edition | | White-label | White-label player plus partner API keys and a reseller program | White-label apps and branding in the OTT edition | | Support | Engineers answer, with published response times | Tiered support by plan | | Vendor continuity | Independent and player-only | Acquired by Bending Spoons, November 2025; mass layoffs reported January 2026 | ## Migration path If you keep your content where it is and only change the player, the work is bounded: point Bradmax at the same manifests, map your ad and DRM configuration, and retest on the devices you support. Our migration guides cover the common open-source players, and the same mapping applies when the source is a platform player. - [Migrate from hls.js](https://bradmax.com/site/en/guides/migrate-hlsjs-to-bradmax) - [Migrate from Video.js](https://bradmax.com/site/en/guides/migrate-videojs-to-bradmax) - [See pricing](https://bradmax.com/site/en/pricing) - [Start free](https://bradmax.com/site/en/signup) ## Frequently asked questions ### Why are teams looking at Vimeo alternatives in 2026? Vimeo changed hands in November 2025, then restructured its plans in 2026: reported price rises of 32-65% and deep cuts to included storage. It also reported mass layoffs in January 2026. If your costs are tied to a Vimeo plan, that is a reason to re-run the numbers. ### Does Bradmax host video? No. Bradmax is a player and playback SDK, not a hosting platform. You keep your storage, CDN and CMS; we replace the playback layer. If you want hosting, encoding and delivery in one bundle, Vimeo is the better fit. ### Can I keep my existing CDN? Yes. Bradmax plays whatever standard HLS or DASH manifest your CDN serves, and multi-CDN setups are supported. There is no delivery lock-in. ### What about Vimeo OTT apps? Vimeo OTT includes white-label subscriber apps and a per-subscriber platform fee. Bradmax covers the player and the TV and mobile web surfaces. If you need a fully managed app pipeline plus billing, that is a platform decision, not a player one. ### Is switching a migration project? For the player layer, no: it is configuration, and our migration guides walk through the integration concepts. The platform work around it (accounts, billing, app store submissions) is a different project. ## Sources and method - Vimeo acquired by Bending Spoons for USD 1.38B Deal announcement, November 2025 - Mass layoffs at Vimeo Press reporting, January 2026 - 2026 plan restructure with reported 32-65% increases and storage cuts Vendor plan documentation and user reporting, 2026 - Vimeo OTT scale: 9,300+ channels, 5,400+ apps, 13M+ subscribers Vimeo OTT product pages Every claim about Vimeo on this page comes from the public sources listed above. The platform still works. The question buyers bring to us now is different: whether a cost-cutting owner keeps investing in the parts they depend on. Brightcove is a full online video platform and Bradmax is the player layer. The criteria below are the ones a mid-market team actually weighs. ## Quick answer ### Bradmax Bradmax suits teams that already have (or want) their own storage and CDN, and need a player with DRM, TV coverage, ad insertion and engineers who answer directly. ### Brightcove Brightcove suits organisations that want a full managed video platform (CMS, delivery, player, OTT apps) with enterprise procurement history behind it. ## Where Brightcove is strong ### Enterprise delivery heritage Two decades of running video for large organisations, with the operational maturity and audit history procurement teams recognise. ### A broad suite Video Cloud for content management and delivery, Player, Live, Beacon for OTT apps, SSAI, Zencoder for encoding, and an AI feature line. ### Awarded engineering Two Emmy engineering awards, a credential that carries real weight in broadcast-adjacent procurement. ### High-value account experience Brightcove premium accounts have averaged around USD 101,000 a year, so the account management muscle for large deployments is real. ## Where Bradmax fits better ### You pay for a player, not a platform Published tiers from EUR 99 to EUR 399 a month for the player, against a platform whose starter entry has been around USD 4,200 a year and whose premium accounts average around USD 101,000 a year. ### No procurement cycle to get an answer Support comes from the engineers who build the player, and mid-market Brightcove customers tell us the missing part was an answer in hours. ### Player-only focus No CMS migration, no delivery contract to unwind, no encoding line item to justify. Bradmax slots under whatever platform you already run. ### Ad insertion, not an add-on 13M+ dynamic ad insertion streams a month with SCTE-35 workflows, proven at TISA and at Allente, where ad fill reached 100%. ### TV and CTV coverage from one codebase Tizen, webOS and Android TV plus Chromecast and AirPlay, with the same codebase as web and mobile WebViews. ### White-label and reseller A white-label player with partner API keys, for software houses and CDNs that resell playback under their own brand. ## Side by side | Criterion | Bradmax | Brightcove | | --- | --- | --- | | Scope | Player and playback SDK | Full online video platform plus OTT app suite | | Entry price | EUR 99/month, published | Starter published at around USD 4,200/year; premium accounts average around USD 101,000/year | | Pricing transparency | Full public price list | Quote-based above the starter tier | | Migration scope | Replace the player; keep your CMS, storage and CDN | Adopting the platform means moving content and workflow | | DAI / SSAI | 13M+ DAI streams a month; SCTE-35 workflows | SSAI available in the suite | | Multi-DRM | Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady, ClearKey | Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady | | TV and CTV | Tizen, webOS, Android TV, Chromecast, AirPlay | Via Beacon OTT apps | | Support | Engineers answer, with published response times | Tiered enterprise support | | Vendor continuity | Independent and player-only | Acquired by Bending Spoons, closed February 2025; roughly 198 roles cut afterwards | ## Migration path Replacing the player alone is bounded work: the same manifests, the same DRM and ad configuration, and a device retest. No. Brightcove was acquired by Bending Spoons in a deal that closed in February 2025, and roughly 198 roles went shortly after. The platform carries on. What buyers ask about now is roadmap commitment and service levels under a cost-cutting owner, not a shutdown. ### Do I have to leave my video platform to use Bradmax? No. Bradmax is a player, so it sits on top of the CMS, storage and CDN you already use. Plenty of teams keep their platform and replace only the playback layer, to get better TV coverage, ad insertion or analytics. ### How do I migrate a Brightcove Player integration? The integration surface is small: a player reference, a media ID or manifest URL, and your DRM and ad configuration. Our migration guides map those concepts step by step, and the free plan lets you test against your own streams before committing. ### What about Brightcove Beacon for OTT apps? Beacon covers app packaging and store submission. Bradmax covers the player inside those apps and on TV web platforms. If you need managed app delivery, that part stays a platform decision. ### How does the price compare? Brightcove Starter has been published at around USD 4,200 a year, with premium accounts averaging around USD 101,000 a year. Bradmax publishes flat tiers from EUR 99 to EUR 399 a month for the player. The scopes differ, so compare the line items you actually need, not the headline numbers. ## Sources and method - Brightcove acquired by Bending Spoons for USD 233M, closed February 2025 Deal announcement and press reporting - Around 198 roles cut after the acquisition Press reporting, March 2025 - Brightcove Starter around USD 4,200/year; premium average around USD 101,000/year Company filings and vendor pricing reporting - Two Emmy engineering awards Brightcove company information Every claim about Brightcove on this page comes from the public sources listed above. What changed is the shape of the business: the Connatix merger created JWX in October 2024, the brand has changed four times in three years, and the company now carries an advertising business whose cycle is not the same as yours. When a publisher re-tenders the player, the criteria that matter are pricing predictability, TV coverage, ad insertion, DRM, and who answers when playback breaks. ## Quick answer ### Bradmax Bradmax suits publishers who want a flat, published price, TV and CTV coverage, ad insertion that runs at volume, and support from the engineers who build the player. ### JW Player JW Player suits publishers who want a large integrated ad and data business alongside the player, plus a free non-commercial tier for hobby projects. ## Where JW Player is strong ### Scale JW Player reports 15B streams a month and 5B SSAI impressions a month. Few vendors can claim that level of production experience. ### End-to-end monetization Player, ad server, data suite and subscriptions in one stack, with the ad-market relationships that come with it. ### Broadcaster relationships Around 2,000 media companies, including a large share of the top US publishers by Comscore. ### Google Video Specialist Partner status A recognised partnership for Google ad integrations. ### A free non-commercial tier A genuine entry point for hobby and non-commercial projects, watermarked. ## Where Bradmax fits better ### Flat, published pricing instead of usage tiers Bradmax publishes every tier and every included volume, from EUR 99 to EUR 399 a month. Usage-based plans that escalate as you grow are the most common reason publishers give us for re-tendering the player. ### A stable, single-purpose vendor Bradmax has one product and one name. In a market where the player has changed hands or changed brand repeatedly, stability matters in procurement. ### TV and CTV from the same codebase Tizen, webOS and Android TV playback plus Chromecast and AirPlay, alongside web and mobile WebViews. ### Ad insertion, including live sports 13M+ dynamic ad insertion streams a month, with SCTE-35 sports workflows proven at TISA and 100% ad fill at Allente. ### Multi-DRM without a tier negotiation Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady and ClearKey are part of the product. ### Direct engineering support The people who build the player answer the ticket. Published response times, no ticket maze. ## Side by side | Criterion | Bradmax | JW Player (JWX) | | --- | --- | --- | | Pricing model | Flat monthly plans, published | Usage tiers that escalate with volume; enterprise quotes | | Entry price | EUR 99/month, published | Free non-commercial tier; paid tiers scale with usage | | Free tier | Free plan for testing and low volume | Free non-commercial tier, watermarked | | TV and CTV | Tizen, webOS, Android TV, Chromecast, AirPlay | Broad platform coverage | | DAI / SSAI | 13M+ DAI streams a month; SCTE-35 workflows | 5B SSAI impressions a month reported | | Multi-DRM | Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady, ClearKey | Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady | | White-label | White-label player plus partner API keys and a reseller program | Branding options within the platform | | Support | Engineers answer, with published response times | Tiered support by plan | | Brand and ownership stability | One product, one name, independent | Four names in three years; JW Player and Connatix merged into JWX in October 2024 | ## Migration path The player is the easy part to replace: the source manifest stays the same and the integration surface is small. JW Player offers a free non-commercial tier with a watermark, plus paid tiers that scale with usage. If you are on the free tier and traffic is growing, the question is when the commercial tier starts to cost more than a flat plan would. ### Why did JW Player merge with Connatix? They merged in October 2024 into JWX, framed at the time as a response to pressure in the advertising market. For buyers, the practical consequence is churn: four names in three years, and an organisation that now spans a player, an ad business and a data business. ### Can Bradmax replace a JW Player embed? Yes. Both take standard HLS and DASH sources, so the embed is replaced and the source stays the same. Our migration guides map the integration concepts for common players, and the free plan lets you test against your own stream first. ### Do I need JW's ad server? No. Bradmax supports VAST, VMAP, VPAID, SGAI and server-side and dynamic ad insertion with the ad systems you already use, including Google Ads, FreeWheel and Yospace. ### What happens to my usage costs if traffic spikes? Nothing unexpected: Bradmax tiers are flat monthly plans with published included volumes and published overage pricing. A viral event does not trigger a repricing conversation. ## Sources and method - JW Player and Connatix merge into JWX Deal announcement, October 2024 - 15B streams/month and 5B SSAI impressions/month JW Player company information - Around 2,000 media customers, including a large share of top US publishers JW Player company information - Free non-commercial tier and usage-based paid tiers JW Player public pricing pages Every claim about JW Player on this page comes from the public sources listed above. The resemblance is no coincidence: both are player-only, developer-first, and publish their prices. Radiant earned that position with steady content and awards, and it is a serious option. ## Quick answer ### Bradmax Bradmax suits teams that need dynamic and server-side ad insertion at volume, real-time playback analytics, white-label or reseller delivery, and support from the engineers who build the player. ### Radiant Media Player Radiant Media Player suits teams that want a lean, per-domain or per-start licence with strong client-side ad standards coverage and a public price list. ## Where Radiant Media Player is strong ### Fully public pricing Both editions are published from USD 150 a month, with no free tier but a 14-day trial. For buyers who need a number before a conversation, that is a real advantage. ### Deep client-side ad standards coverage VAST, VMAP, VPAID and SIMID, Google IMA certified, with SSAI through IMA DAI and MediaTailor. A strong AVOD pitch. ### Accessibility and standards discipline WCAG accessibility support and more than 200 configurable settings, which matters in public-sector and regulated deployments. ### Recognition and positioning A 2023 Streaming Media European Innovation Award, 250+ clients including broadcasters and publishers, and a founding membership of Greening of Streaming with an energy-efficiency angle. ## Where Bradmax fits better ### Dynamic ad insertion at volume 13M+ streams a month, with SCTE-35 workflows for live sports. Radiant's published strength is client-side ad standards; ours is server-side and dynamic insertion in production. ### Real-time playback analytics Playback QoE, error and engagement data from the same platform, with 1M+ errors auto-resolved a month. That data describes your own service, not a demo. ### White-label and reseller as a product line A white-label player with partner API keys and a reseller program, used by CDNs and software houses that deliver playback under their own brand. ### TV and CTV coverage Tizen, webOS and Android TV playback plus Chromecast and AirPlay, from the same codebase as web and mobile. ### A lower published entry point Tiers start at EUR 99 a month with the full price list published, and include support, analytics, ad insertion and multi-DRM rather than billing them as separate line items. ### A team behind the player, not a single founder Support is answered by the engineers who build the player, with published response times and a capped commitment we can actually honour. ## Side by side | Criterion | Bradmax | Radiant Media Player | | --- | --- | --- | | Entry price | EUR 99/month, published | From USD 150/month, published | | Billing unit | Flat monthly plan | Per-domain or per-start, depending on edition | | Free tier | Free plan for testing and low volume | No free tier; 14-day trial | | DAI / SSAI | 13M+ DAI streams a month; SCTE-35 workflows | SSAI via IMA DAI and MediaTailor; strong client-side ad standards | | Analytics | Real-time QoE, error and engagement analytics; 1M+ errors auto-resolved a month | Player analytics integrations | | White-label and OEM | White-label player, partner API keys, reseller program | OEM licensing tier | | TV and CTV | Tizen, webOS, Android TV, Chromecast, AirPlay | Tizen and webOS CTV support | | Multi-DRM | Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady, ClearKey | Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady, ClearKey | | Support | Engineers answer, with published response times | Reasonable-endeavours support | | Team | Player-only vendor with an engineering team behind the player | Small team, founder-led | ## Migration path Both players take the same standard sources, so a switch is configuration, not content work. The two products have similar shapes: player-only, developer-first, published pricing. The practical differences are ad insertion (Bradmax runs dynamic and server-side insertion at volume; Radiant's published focus is client-side ad standards), analytics, the white-label and reseller program, and the support model. ### Which one is cheaper? Radiant's editions both start at USD 150 a month, one priced per domain and one per start. Bradmax publishes tiers from EUR 99 a month. Compare on the billing unit that matches your traffic: per-domain favours sites with many starts and few domains, and a flat plan favours a predictable monthly budget. ### Do both support dynamic ad insertion? Both support VAST, VMAP and VPAID client-side advertising. Bradmax also runs dynamic and server-side insertion in production, 13M+ streams a month, with SCTE-35 workflows for live sports. ### Can I try both? Bradmax offers a free plan you can point at your own stream in minutes, and a live demo covering DRM, ads, playlists and TV themes. We recommend testing with your own content and devices rather than a vendor's demo reel. ## Sources and method - Radiant Media Player pricing from USD 150/month, both editions Radiant Media Player public pricing page - Google IMA certification and client-side ad standards coverage Radiant Media Player product documentation - 2023 Streaming Media European Innovation Award Award announcement, 2023 - 250+ clients and Greening of Streaming founding membership Radiant Media Player company information Every claim about Radiant Media Player on this page comes from the public sources listed above. If your content is unprotected, plays in a browser and carries no ads, an open-source player is enough, and we will say so. This page is about the boundary: the points where the honest answer changes. It is a guide rather than a pitch, because the boundary is where the conversation gets useful. ## Quick answer ### Bradmax Bradmax suits teams that need multi-DRM, TV and CTV coverage, dynamic or server-side ad insertion at volume, or an SLA on playback incidents, and would rather buy that than maintain it. ### Open-source players Open-source players suit web-only playback of unprotected content, teams with in-house player expertise and spare engineering capacity, and projects where an incident has no commercial consequence. ## When open source is the right answer ### Web-only, unprotected content For HLS or DASH playback in the browser without DRM, hls.js or Shaka Player plus a small UI covers it. There is no reason to pay for that. ### No ads, no SLAs If monetization is not part of the requirement and a playback incident is an annoyance rather than a revenue event, an open-source player is proportionate. ### In-house player expertise Teams that already maintain a player fork and enjoy the work should keep it. The economics only invert when that maintenance competes with product work. ### No procurement, no contract Zero cost and zero paperwork. For prototypes, internal tools and side projects that is decisive. ### A large, active community hls.js alone sees tens of millions of npm downloads a month, so answers and patches are usually available quickly. ## When you need a commercial player ### Premium content, so real DRM Certified Widevine, FairPlay and PlayReady connectors, robustness levels, and licence-server integration tested per device rather than left to your team. This is the most common trigger of all. ### A second platform: TV, or Flutter Adding a Smart TV app or a Flutter build is where open-source parity breaks down. Bradmax covers Tizen, webOS, Android TV, Chromecast and AirPlay plus Flutter and mobile WebViews from one codebase. ### Ad insertion that has to earn revenue VAST, VMAP and VPAID client-side, plus server-side and dynamic insertion with SCTE-35 workflows, 13M+ streams a month and 100% ad fill at Allente. ### Someone to call during an incident An SLA transfers production-incident risk to the vendor. No open-source project can offer that. ### Maintenance cost moved off your sprint Browser churn, OS updates, DRM policy changes and ad-tech changes are our problem, spread across every customer rather than concentrated in your team. ### Playback data as a product Real-time QoE, error and engagement analytics, with 1M+ errors auto-resolved a month. ## Side by side | Criterion | Bradmax | Open source (hls.js, Shaka, Video.js) | | --- | --- | --- | | Cost model | Published plans from EUR 99/month | No licence fee; engineering time instead | | DRM | Certified Widevine, FairPlay, PlayReady, ClearKey | EME support; compliance and robustness are your responsibility | | TV and CTV | Tizen, webOS, Android TV, Chromecast, AirPlay | Community-supported or untested on many TV platforms | | Flutter and hybrid apps | Web player via WebView bridge, in production at TISA | DIY bridging | | Ad insertion | Client-side plus server-side and dynamic insertion; SCTE-35 workflows | Client-side ad integrations assembled by your team | | Support and SLA | Engineers answer, with published response times | Community support only | | Maintenance | Vendor owns browser, OS and DRM churn | Your team owns it, across every target device | | Analytics | Real-time QoE, error and engagement analytics built in | Separate integration, if any | | Time to first playback | Minutes with a generated embed or JS snippet | Fast for the basics; grows with DRM, ads and TV | ## Migration path When you cross the boundary, the migration is smaller than it looks: the same manifests, the same DRM servers, the same ad tags. Our guides map the integration concepts one by one for the three most common starting points. - [Migrate from hls.js](https://bradmax.com/site/en/guides/migrate-hlsjs-to-bradmax) - [Migrate from Shaka Player](https://bradmax.com/site/en/guides/migrate-shaka-player-to-bradmax) - [Migrate from Video.js](https://bradmax.com/site/en/guides/migrate-videojs-to-bradmax) - [See pricing](https://bradmax.com/site/en/pricing) - [Start free](https://bradmax.com/site/en/signup) ## Frequently asked questions ### Do I even need a commercial player? Often, no. For web-only playback of unprotected content with no ad requirements, hls.js or Shaka Player plus a small UI is a legitimate answer, and the maintenance is manageable. The boundary moves when you add DRM, a second platform, ad insertion at volume, or an SLA on playback incidents. ### Is hls.js enough for DRM? hls.js supports EME, so it can talk to a DRM licence server. What it does not give you is certified connector behaviour, robustness-level handling, per-device quirks, and a vendor who owns the resulting incident. For premium content, that difference is the whole purchase. ### When does a second platform force the decision? Adding a Smart TV app or a Flutter build is the most common trigger. Open-source players list many of those platforms as community-supported or untested, and the QA surface multiplies. That is usually where the in-house cost overtakes a licence. ### How much maintenance does an open-source player really cost? The player itself is well maintained. The cost is in the integration around it: browser and OS changes, DRM policy updates, ad-tech changes, and device-specific regressions. Bitmovin's developer research reports fully custom player builds are rare (around 6% of teams) precisely because of that ongoing cost. ### Can I migrate from hls.js, Shaka or Video.js without rewriting my page? Yes. The source manifest stays the same and the integration surface is small. Our migration guides map the concepts (source configuration, DRM, events, UI) to the Bradmax equivalents. ## Sources and method - hls.js npm download volume and production users npm registry and project documentation, 2026 - Around 6% of teams run fully custom player builds Bitmovin Video Developer Report, 2025/26 - Open-source player maintenance and browser churn Vendor-neutral build-vs-buy analyses, 2025-2026 - EME and DRM robustness handling in browser players W3C Encrypted Media Extensions specification Every claim about Open-source players on this page comes from the public sources listed above. This guide is for the moment the integration around it has outgrown it: DRM to wire up, or a TV target to support. The migration is deliberately small. Your manifests, DRM servers and ad tags stay exactly as they are; only the playback layer changes. ## The migration, step by step ### Keep your manifests Bradmax plays the same HLS master playlist hls.js loads. Nothing is re-encoded, repackaged or moved. ### Add the player source and a container Replace the hls.js script tag with the player source generated for your account, and give the player a container element. The embed code and iframe variant are produced in the client panel. ### Move the source into the player configuration The manifest URL moves from hls.loadSource() into dataProvider.source. Everything else about the source (DRM, ads, subtitles, thumbnails) is configured on the same object. ### Delete the media element wiring hls.attachMedia(video) and the manual
